I'm getting my provisional license, at what age (in new mexico) does the auto insurance kick in?
Alright, so i get my provisional license in less then a week. and i need to know at what age teen drivers are eligible for auto insurance? I'm 15 1/2 and so I want to know when my parents will have to start paying auto insurance for me, this is for the state of New Mexico!
Insurance is not based on age. If you live at home and have a license, you need to added to your parents policy. Same if you get your own car, you are listed as primary driver of that car on their policy. When you reach 18 or better and move out, you'll need your own policy at that point.
Once you're allowed to drive the car without a parent in the passenger seat supervising, then you need auto insurance. Different states have different names for the stages, but I'm assuming provisional license let's you drive on your own (even if with restrictions), and if so, you need insurance.
